Two of our colleagues raised a fantastic £1,669 for the automotive industry’s charity Ben when they took part in Bangers4Ben last month.

Bangers4Ben is an annual road rally organised by Car Dealer Magazine to raise vital funds for the charity. Each team must purchase a car for no more than £750, paint or decal it, then drive it to and from a specific location somewhere in Europe – in full fancy dress. After the rally, the cars are auctioned to contribute towards the final total.

This year’s theme was ‘Best of British’ which involved 21 teams of two taking part in an epic 4 day, 890 mile round trip across the UK including some of the most spectacular scenic routes England and Wales have to offer. The rally started at Bicester Heritage and saw drivers visiting Aberystwyth, the Brecon Beacons, Buxton and York, among many other places.

The route took in breathtaking vistas such as the Black Mountain Pass, Devil’s Staircase, Evo Triangle, Cat and Fiddle, Snake Pass and Buttertubs Pass. It also included iconic motoring destinations such as Oulton Park Circuit and the British Motor Museum.

Our colleagues Ashley and Darren ‘spotted’ a bargain with their transport of choice – a 16 year old, 135,000 mile Toyota Yaris purchased from LxL Cars in Crewe for £600. The pair then painstaking decorated it with 700 dalmatian spots, pink seat covers and a pink sticker visor, topping the look off with dalmatian print suits for the ‘ultimutt’ touch.

Each team had a target of £1,000 to raise from the event. Ashley and Darren raised £1,219 in sponsorship before the car was auctioned for £450 at BCA Blackbushe, bringing their total to £1,669 – £669 over the original target. We’re so proud of our dynamic duo and the 20 other teams who took part to raise money for this deserving charity!

So far, the event has raised over £35,000 for Ben with one more vehicle to be sold. The final figure should exceed £40,000.

It was a fantastic few days and we’d like to thank everyone who supported Ashley and Darren. Without your help this wouldn’t have been possible so a very big thank you from all of us at Warranty Solutions Group.
